Why ClearStrand-ASD

A test built for what behavioral screenings can't see.

  • No blood draw

Non-invasive hair sample collection from home. No needles, no clinic visit required for prescription.

  • Biochemical, not behavioral

Objectively measures molecular metabolic patterns that behavioral screening simply cannot measure.

  • CLIA-Certified lab

Built on research from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, processed with proprietary robotic and laser ablation technology in a CLIA-certified lab.

  • 95% rule-out reliability

A negative result means a 95% probability your child would not receive an autism diagnosis from a specialist.

  • Telehealth prescription included

Healthcare provider prescription and post-test telehealth visit (in case of a non-negative result) included in the $499 all-in price.

  • Results in 15 business days

We know every day of uncertainty feels long. Your child's results will be ready within 15 business days of the sample's arrival at our lab.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

Built on years of research. Clinically validated.

ClearStrand-ASD was developed based on scientific research conducted at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, one of the top-ranked medical research institutions in the U.S. — with over a decade of biomarker research. The underlying science maps the dynamic metabolic patterns of an individual's biological response to elemental exposures using proprietary robotic and laser ablation technology — detecting a biomarker that differs between autistic and non-autistic individuals. It is not a genetic test.

  • 1 months - 10 years

Testable from as early as 1 month of age when autism is a concern.

  • 95%

Probability a negative result means no autism diagnosis.

  • $499

All-in price: telehealth prescription, kit, lab testing, results consult.

"When my son Theo was diagnosed with autism, I worried constantly about my baby daughter, Myla. Every little behavior had me questioning if it was a sign. Taking the ClearStrand-ASD test gave me peace of mind. The results are easy to understand and help guide next steps with my doctor"
Heather A. Mother of two
"We spent months waiting for a specialist appointment. ClearStrand-ASD gave us real, science-based information before we could even get in to see anyone — and it changed how quickly we were able to help our son."

ClearStrand-ASD testing has the potential to help caregivers plan the next steps for their child earlier than ever before. ClearStrand-ASD helps health care providers determine if autism can be ruled out or if the child needs further evaluation with a specialist.

ClearStrand-ASD results contribute valuable information to support health care providers in providing children and their caregivers the help they need.

  • When health care providers can rule out autism, the focus can shift to other aspects of the child’s health and development.

  • When health care providers cannot rule out autism, they can alert caregivers to seek an autism diagnostic evaluation for the child.

ClearStrand-ASD is for children aged 1 month up to 10 years (120 months) when autism is a concern.

ClearStrand-ASD is currently available in most states with the exception of New York. If you live in a state where ClearStrand-ASD is not yet available, please fill out our contact form, and you will be notified if it becomes available in your state.

ClearStrand-ASD analyzes hundreds of time points along a strand of hair and uses an algorithm to assess the likelihood of autism. The patterns of an individual’s biological response to certain elements can be measured in hair and are different in autistic and non-autistic people. This is referred to as the “biomarker".

  • If the biomarker is not detected, there is a 95% probability that a child will not receive a diagnosis of autism if they are evaluated by a specialist.
  • If the biomarker is detected, autism cannot be ruled out. The child may need further autism diagnostic evaluation. ClearStrand-ASD does not provide a confirmation of autism. Children with the biomarker might not be diagnosed with autism when they are evaluated by a specialist.

The ClearStrand-ASD result report indicates whether the biomarker was detected. It does not include quantitative values of the elements measured during the hair analysis.

ClearStrand-ASD offers 2 types of results: a negative result and a non-negative result.

In a few cases, the result will be not reportable due to an issue with the hair sample. If this happens, you will be notified, and a new collection kit will be sent to your home.

Important information

ClearStrand-ASD is a biochemical test intended to help health care providers rule out autism spectrum disorder (ASD) when it is a concern in children aged 1 month up to 10 years (120 months) of age. It detects a biomarker associated with autism using a strand of hair. ClearStrand-ASD must be ordered by a licensed health care provider. Rx only. ClearStrand-ASD results can be negative or non-negative.

A child with a negative result is unlikely to be on the autism spectrum. A child with a non-negative result may need further autism diagnostic evaluation. ClearStrand-ASD is not a standalone diagnostic test. Health care providers should consider the test result in the context of other factors relevant to their clinical decision making. ClearStrand-ASD analyzes a strand of hair to map the dynamic patterns of an individual's unique biological response to environmental exposures over time at a molecular level and uses an algorithm to assess the likelihood of autism from the patterns. It is not a genetic test.

The test is performed by the LinusBio CLIA-certified laboratory (CLIA #31d2307499) and has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

ClearStrand-ASD has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Results require clinical interpretation. CLIA# 31d2307499.
